Swan Valley and Stewards of the Future!

The Swan Valley Sport Fishing Enhancement group continues to do great work in the Swan Valley region of Manitoba. This year the group resurrected a popular program called the Stewards of the Future. Stewards is an ongoing education program where SVSFE technicians and volunteers work closely with Grade 5 and 6 students throughout the valley. The program provides various seminars to classrooms and included recently a tour by Hooked Editor Don Lamont.
Speaking to high school students in Swan River
Lamont visited six schools in the region and was assisted by member of the Swan Valley Sport Fishing Enhancement group and Fisheries technicians Holly Urban and Brock Koutecky. It was a fun time had by all!

Special thanks to Duane Whyte, Jeff Connolly as well as Dean Barteski.
Stewards is designed to encourage students to take up fishing and take part in sustainable fishing practices. Also SVSFE will be offering a $1000 bursary to a high school student intending to pursue a post-secondary education in the environmental sector.
